Psalm 16:8-9 “I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety.”

We all sometimes feel like the cares of life threaten to overwhelm and sweep us away, causing us to feel anxious and worried about our current circumstances and what the future holds. Perhaps you too are facing a situation that is leaving you feeling weighed down by concern and worry. I have found that focusing continually upon the circumstances and challenges I’m facing, only leaves me feeling more worried and anxious as I try and work things out through my own reasoning and understanding. Contrast this with what the Psalmist says about setting the Lord continually before you instead. By focusing upon Him- instead of the problems you may be facing- you too will not be moved, your heart will be glad, you will rejoice on the inside, your body will have rest AND you will confidently rest in safety! Whenever you find yourself feeling anxious or worried, it is a sure sign that you’ve taken your eyes off the Lord, and its time to stop and refocus on Him again.
