“Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." - Matthew 19:14 NIV
Do you remember being a little girl or little boy? Do you remember how anything was possible and everything was attainable? If you knew Jesus, do you remember how easy it was to trust Him, before “logic” or disappointment or life got in the way? I have the incredible privilege of hanging out with our elementary kids each week and one of my favorite things about them is their true childlike faith.
They prayed for healing and the healing came! They stared blankly back at the volunteer as she tearfully told them how she’d no longer be needing knee surgery. They weren’t unimpressed with the healing; rather, they sat a bit confused on the adult reactions. “We prayed! Of course you’re healed! That’s what happens when you pray!”
Their faith is so big that they had nothing but full expectation in a God who follows through on His promises. When they close their eyes to listen to Jesus, they know their best friend will be there to talk to them. When He tells them who they are, they believe Him!
The Bible doesn’t talk to children about growing up to be like adults. Instead, Jesus tells us that the kingdom of Heaven belongs to the little children! How can we practice and grow in this throughout our fast? Where are the places in your heart that you’re still holding onto in fear? Where do you need to let go and believe, with pure, abandoned, childlike faith?
