“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” - 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

When I read this verse, my mind takes me back to middle school where you are in line waiting to be picked for either Team A or Team B. My heart was racing as a young kid, desperately wanting to be picked ahead of others and not be last – wanting to stand out and be known for what I can bring to the team and receive the prize at the end.

There are seasons, when you feel like you have been “picked over” or “not chosen at all” since you haven’t seen that promise, that healing, or that breakthrough. I believe that when we are able to see ourselves as set apart and chosen by God, the Creator of all things, that our mindset begins to shift and the things we desire cannot compare to the peace of knowing we are God’s children (a royal priesthood!). As His children, we are seen, we are known, and we are never picked over. Our God is a good Father who never withholds blessing from children. He called us out of darkness and into a place of light and, in that, we are grounded in a position of hallelujah, singing His praises and speaking of His good works and the works yet to come!

If you are still waiting on a promise or breakthrough, I pray during this fast you would settle in the knowing that God has set you apart and, as His children, there is greatness in store for you!
