“...blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” -  Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT

There have been so many times in my life where I’ve had to make a choice to either be worried about what was happening next and try to fix it myself or trust that God would show up. Each time that I made the choice to trust God and believe His promises, my roots grew deeper in Him. The next time a storm came or a drought came, I knew without a doubt that God would be there to sustain me.

The previous verses in this chapter say that those who rely on human strength are like stunted shrubs in the desert who have no hope for the future. I would much rather be a green, fruitful tree. My goal is to always walk in the hope and confidence that God knows what He’s doing.

Even when nothing looks like we thought it would or there are months and months of nothing – of drought – let us be so confident that He’ll show up that we don’t even think about worrying. Instead of scrambling around trying to fix our situation, let’s immediately give it to God. Let’s grow our roots into the deep waters of trust. Let’s never stop producing fruit in every season.
